Freedom is the reward

Learning has an aim in the Kingdom. Learning will learn us the truth, and set us free.

In John 8:31-32 we can read what Jesus said about our identity and reward for fullfilling our identity.

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32

This verse comes right after the Jews was challening on who Jesus really was: The living son of God. And his way of working: Doing what His Father showed Him, nothing more and nothing less.

Our identity

We are disciples of Jesus. Disciples are students and followers of the way. Jesus asks us to submit to a life long learning.

To be a student is to actively seek knowledge, truth and never tire of growing in the realm and reality of of Heaven. If we do this, Jesus promise us that we will find the truth. And not only will we find the truth, but it will also set us free.

But how do we submit to class? The key is the Spirit:

13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
John 16:13

We must get a relationship with the Spirit, so He can guide us. We can’t be guided by someone we do not know and have no relationship with. So is there one thing Christians must learn, except for the gospel of mercy, it is to hook ourselves on the Spirit and not let go.

Freedom is the ultimate reward. Freedom is getting free from the chains of hell and satan’s purpose for us: Fear and death.
